The New Braunfels, Texas, community is mourning the tragic loss of Nathan Verde, 21, who died following a devastating three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Loop 337 and Oak Run Parkway on Saturday afternoon. The collision also left several others injured, including a 12-year-old child who sustained critical injuries, leaving multiple families facing an unimaginable tragedy.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. Investigators reported that Nathan was driving a Chevrolet Corvette eastbound on Loop 337 when the vehicle, allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, crossed the center median into the westbound lanes.

Authorities said the Corvette first collided with a Dodge Ram pickup truck that was turning onto Oak Run Parkway before striking a Tesla Model 3 that was stopped at the intersection. The force of the collision ejected Nathan from the Corvette.

Emergency responders immediately began lifesaving efforts at the scene before transporting Nathan to a nearby hospital. Despite every effort by medical personnel, he later succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The collision also seriously injured the driver of the Dodge Ram and a 12-year-old passenger, both of whom were taken to a medical facility in Kyle. Because of the severity of the child’s injuries, the young passenger was later airlifted to a hospital in Austin for specialized treatment.

The driver of the Tesla suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening and was transported for medical evaluation. A child riding in the Tesla was not injured. Authorities also reported that debris from the crash struck a nearby Lincoln Navigator, though its driver escaped without injury.

Investigators noted that roadway improvement work has been underway near the intersection, including striping, sidewalk widening, intersection realignment, and drainage upgrades. However, officials have stated that the construction project has not been identified as a contributing factor in the collision.

Nathan’s sudden passing has left his family, friends, and loved ones heartbroken. Those who knew him are remembering a young man whose life ended far too soon and whose loss has created a profound void in the lives of everyone who cared for him.
