The Parsippany, New Jersey, community is mourning the tragic loss of Cavan Londergan, a former educator and school counselor whose body was discovered Tuesday evening following a multi-day search. His passing has left family members, friends, former colleagues, students, and community members grieving the loss of a man remembered for his years of dedication to education and service.

According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Londergan, 49, was reported missing to the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department on Saturday, August 2. Investigators later determined that he had last been seen in Madison on Monday, August 3, leading to an expanded search involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The New Jersey State Police Missing Persons Unit joined the investigation on Tuesday, helping authorities develop a lead that directed search teams to Summerhill Park in Madison. A coordinated effort involving the Madison Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, and the Morris County Office of Emergency Management resulted in the discovery of Londergan’s body later that evening.

Detectives from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and investigators from the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have stated that Londergan’s death is not considered suspicious at this time. An autopsy is pending, and investigators continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

Londergan devoted more than a decade to the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District, where he first served as a classroom teacher before becoming a guidance counselor. He spent approximately 11 years supporting students at Lake Parsippany Elementary School before continuing his work at Parsippany High School, where he assisted students with their academic, personal, and social development.

His dedication to education earned him widespread respect throughout the district. In 2015, he was inducted into the Parsippany High School Hall of Fame in recognition of his professional accomplishments and lasting contributions to the school community.

Beyond the classroom, Londergan remained committed to serving others. Together with his wife, Angie, a fellow Parsippany High School Class of 1995 graduate, he established an autism scholarship benefiting local students. The scholarship was funded through an annual flag football tournament, reflecting the couple’s commitment to giving back to the community.

In February 2024, the Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Education approved a settlement involving Londergan, after which he departed from the school district.

News of his passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from former students, coworkers, friends, and community members who remember him for the guidance, encouragement, and support he provided throughout his career.
